 Lina Medina, from the Ticrapo District of Peru, gave birth by cesarean section in Lima at the age of 5+1/2. Gerardo who was who was a 4.75 centimeter (18.7in) and 2.69 kg (5.9lb) infant was born in Lima. Medina's parents believed their daughter had cancer, brought her to a hospital and she was later found to be pregnant at 7 months at the age of 5 years old and 6 months old. She had her baby 1 1/2 months later. Doctors interrogated her parents and discovered that Medina was experiencing precocious puberty. This is when hormones start to be activated earlier than normal. Medina's father, who was believed to have been a victim of sexual abuse was detained, but released because there was no evidence. The biological father of the baby was never located.
