Herran was allowed to meet with director Daniel Guzman in Malaga and audition for the role of Dario in the film Nothing in Return. In 2016 Herran was awarded an award called the Goya Award for his movie Nothing in Return. Herran was also cast in 2017 to play Anibal Cortes (codenamed "Rio") in Antena 3's series Money Heist. Netflix later added Herran to their roster of actors.
