Temetrius Jamel "Ja" Morant (born on 10 August 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was dubbed "G12" and played college basketball for the Murray State Racers. As a sophomore in 2019 he was a consensus All-American for the second team. Even though he was named the All-Region's Most Valuable Player three consecutive times and earning All-State honors at Crestwood High School, Sumter, South Carolina, Morant was not heavily recruited by NCAA Division I programs. Nevertheless, he made an immediate impression during his time at Murray State University, earning first-team all-conference awards within the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) as an freshman. His sophomore season was an excellent one. He won OVC Player of the Year award and led the NCAA in assists. As a sophomore, Morant became the first player in NCAA history to average 20-plus points and 10+ assists per game in one season.Morant was chosen by the Grizzlies with the 2nd first overall pick during the 2019 NBA draft, and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2020. Morant was selected to his very first NBA All Star Game in 2022, as a starting player and also won the NBA Most Improved Player Award at the conclusion of the season, Morant was also selected for his very NBA debut All-NBA Team in 2022.
