Sarah Shahi was born Aahoo Jahansouzshahi, on January 10, 1980 and raised in Euless, Texas, U.S.She is the daughter of Abbas Jahansouzshahi and Mahmonir Soroushazar, an interior designer, who separated at the age of ten.Her father hails from Iran. Her father's family fled Iran two years before the Iranian Revolution. Her father, who worked in the American Embassy in Iran and was scheduled to be executed in 1979. However her mother was able get out of Iran. Samantha is a production assistant and Cyrus is an older brother. Her birth name is Aahoo (Persian Aahoo, also known as ahw) refers to 'gazelle' in Persian. Shahi was given Sarah as her name in the second grade after hearing a tune called "Sarah" due to being "tormented" by other kids about her birth name Aahoo. At the direction of her father she was raised speaking Persian as well as English. At the age of eight, Shahi was entered in beauty contests through her parents. Shahi was a student at Trinity High School, [citation required] as well as Southern Methodist University.She was a part of Alpha Chi Omega during her time at SMU. Shahi won the Miss Fort Worth pageant in 1997. She was a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (1999-1900) team, even though she had never previously cheered. Then she relocated to Los Angeles.
