He was a major player for the Boston Red Sox in the American League (AL). After playing parts of six seasons for the Minnesota Twins with unremarkable results, Ortiz moved to the Red Sox, where he played a major role in ending the team's 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004 and also winning titles in 2007 and 2013; He was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013. He averaged 41 home runs per year and 128 RBI in the five initial seasons. After spending a portion of six seasons for the Minnesota Twins, Ortiz moved to the Red Sox. There, was instrumental in ending the team's drought that lasted for 86 years, and was crowned champions in 2007 and 2013. In 2013, he was named the World Series Most Valuable Player. [1] He was awarded the Edgar Martinez Award for the league's most outstanding DH eight times. As a DH was a major player, he set league records for career home runs, RBI (1,569), and hits (2,192). He posted ten seasons each with 30 home runs and 100 RBI and batted .300 or higher seven times. The team saw a decrease in offensive performance between 2008 and 2012 and experienced a remarkable recovery over the last four years. The final season was his most successful, with two-hits, RBI, and slugging percentages that topped the AL. This led to his once more leading the team into the postseason.
