 Venus Ebony Starr Williams[2Venus Ebony Starr Williams[2 (born June 17, 1980) is an American professional tennis player. Former world No. Williams was the former world No. Her parents Oracene and Richard Williams coached her. She is widely considered as one of the top players in the game. When she became a professional in 1994, she made her first major final at the 1997 US Open. In 2000 and 2001, Williams claimed the Wimbledon and US Open titles, as in addition to Olympic singles gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Williams reached the singles world top spot for the first time on February 2002. 1 position on February 25, 2002, making her the first African American woman to do this in the Open era, and the second-highest ranking of all time after Althea Gibson. She made it to four major finals consecutively between 2002 and 2003, however, she lost to Serena. After that, she was injured, winning just one major title between 2003 and 2006. Williams was back to her best 2007 when she won Wimbledon (a feat she repeated the following year). She was ranked as No. 2 in the singles world rankings in 2010. In 2010, she was 2nd in singles, but fell again after suffering from injuries. She began to slowly return to her form in 2014 and culminated in two big final appearances at Wimbledon as well as the Australian Open in 2017.
