Thomas Sowell

 Thomas Sowell (/soUl/, born on June 30 1930), is a prominent American economist, author, and political commentator. The senior fellow is also at The Hoover Institution. He is a well-known voice within American conservative movements . He was published extensively in books and commentary. He has also appeared on radio and TV as a guest. Sowell was born in Gastonia, North Carolina to an unprosperous family. He grew up in Harlem, New York City and was a dropout of Stuyvesant's high school. Then he worked at odd jobs, and was a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Second World War. He took night classes at Howard University after which he attended Harvard University. In 1958 He was awarded the magna cum felicite. He earned a master's degree in economics at Columbia University the next year and an economic doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1968 under the guidance of his mentor Milton Friedman. In his academic career, he's served on the faculties of Cornell University, Amherst College, Brandeis University, the University of California, Los Angeles and, at present, Stanford University. He also has worked for think tanks , including the Urban Institute. He has been a Hoover Institute Senior Fellow in Public Policy at Stanford University since 1977.
