The Brief is the name of a British crime drama television series that was first broadcast on ITV on April 24, 2004. The series is based on Henry Farmer, a defence barrister (Alan Davies) with a complicated personal life manages to connect with his professional life. The other stars of the show are Linda Bassett, Christopher Fulford and Cherie Lunghi. After receiving acclaim from critics and impressive ratings for the first series, which consists of just four episodes another series was ordered that began airing on the 7th of October 2005.However the second series didn't achieve the same viewing figures like the first and after speculation of the possible return of Jonathan Creek, Davies quit the role , and a third series was not ordered. Both series were released on two DVDs on 27 April 2009 and were digitally released via the ITV Store on 14 February the 14th of February, 2016.
