In March 2007, Way recorded "Crank That (Soulja Boy)", followed by a low-budget video demonstrating the "Crank That" dance. The following day, on May 2, "Crank That" was released as a single; towards the end of the month it had already received its first airplay. Way's first major label album, Souljaboytellem.com, reached number four on the Billboard 200 as well as the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. According to reports that the album was recorded using FL Studio's demo versions. Souljaboytellem.com received a favorable review by Allmusic however it received mostly negative feedback from Entertainment Weekly. Many reviewers have given Soulja Boy praise for creating the hip-hop industry's latest trend. However they mostly received negative reviews from other sources such as Entertainment Weekly.
