Curry is the son and daughter of Sonya Curry who was who was a former player of the National Basketball Association (NBA) as well as an ex- Virginia Tech women's volleyball player. Curry was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, as his father, Dell, played for the Charlotte Hornets. Curry and his brother Stephen were often invited to games by their father. They were able to shoot with the team during warm-ups. Curry is a 2008 graduate from Charlotte Christian School where he was a three-year starter for the Knights basketball team. In his senior year, Curry averaged 22.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, while shooting at 52 percent from the field. At the end of the year, he was awarded all-conference, all-state, and first team SAA All-American recognition. Charlotte Christian's three years as coach of the varsity team earned a record of 105-24 overall and a state championship appearance. Curry was also on the Charlotte Christian academic honor roll throughout his four years.
