Cutkosky started doing photo ads at the age of four to allow his mom and dad to spend more time together. After doing a few ads, Cutkosky was invited to audition for commercials and movies. When he was seven years old, Cutkosky got his first movie role as Carl in the comedy Christmas Fred Claus (2007). Cutkosky, who was nine years old, portrayed the role of Barto, a mythical creature in The Unborn (2009). Also, he had the opportunity to perform alongside Gary Oldman. Cutkosky was then selected to portray Carl Gallagher, the second-youngest Gallagher sibling and the principal troublemaker on Shameless. Emmy Rossum, William H. Macy, and Cutkosky are the protagonists. Shameless ran for 11 seasons between 2010 to 2021, and is currently Showtime's longest-running original scripted series.
