Richard Benjamin Harrison

 Harrison was introduced to Joanne Rhue at a barn dance when he was 17 years old. Joanne Rhue was the daughter of Joseph Rhue who became a North Carolina county judge and later, one of the top lawyers for Philip Morris. They were married in the year 1960. Harrison stole a car prior to when they were married. When he was detained and sentenced to prison, he was offered the option to go to jail, or the military. Harrison decided to go to prison and enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1958. Joanne became pregnant right following their marriage. Their first child, Sherry, was born with Down syndrome. The three sons they had included Rick, Chris, and Joseph. Harrison was discharged from the Navy on February 1962. He returned 14 months later to be able to claim the health benefits Sherry was unable to pay his medical bills. She passed away when she was six years old. Harrison served for the U.S. Navy for twenty years. He was a paymaster and eventually became first class petty officer. From 1972 to 1976 Harrison was on four ships. His final five years were spent on the tug of the fleet USS Chowanoc, (ATF-100). In 1967, Harrison was transferred to San Diego by the Navy. He continued to serve in the Navy and Joanne also Joanne got her real estate license in 1970 and established her own business in 1973. Harrison was dismissed in 1979 from the Navy.
