Lionel Messi

 Lionel Andres Messi[note 1](Spanish pronunciation: [ljo’nel an’dres ’mesi[ljo'nel an'dres'mesi]) is an Argentine professional footballer. He is a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and is also the captain of Argentina's national team. He is widely regarded as one of the best footballers ever. Messi won a record seven Ballon d'Or Awards, [note 2] a record number of European Golden Shoes and was included in the Ballon d'Or dream team in 2020. He played his entire professional life at Barcelona before leaving the club in 2021. There, he won a club record 35 trophies including 10 La Liga titles (7 Copa del Rey titles) and 4 UEFA Champions Leagues (4 UEFA Champions Leagues). He won the 2021 Copa America with his country as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Messi is a prolific goal-scorer and an innovative player. He holds the record for the highest number of goals scored in La Liga (474), the most hat-tricks he scored in La Liga (36), and the UEFA Champions League (8). He also holds the records of highest assists in La Liga (192), the Copa America (17) and the UEFA Champions League (8). Messi also has the highest number of international goals scored by a South American male (98). Messi has more than 790 senior career goals for both club and country and is the player with the highest number of goals scored by one player for a single club (672).
