Rattler was a student at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona, for all of his four years in high school. He broke the Arizona high school passing record when he turned 18. Rattler was a quarterback for 11,083 yards in four years, with scores of 116 touchdowns passing. He also rushed for 1,040 yards, and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. He was named the MVP of the Elite 11 in Texas in his senior year. In his final season at Pinnacle Rattler appeared in the Netflix documentary QB1: Beyond the Lights, produced by Peter Berg. Rattler was then banned for violating the district code of conduct, and was not able to play for the rest of the season.
