Beckinsale was the eldest of three children to Arthur John Beckinsale (Anglo-Burmese dad) and Maggie Barlow (English mother). Beckinsale declared in 1977 that he could be a distant cousin of the actor Charles Laughton. When he was at College House Junior School in Chilwell, Beckinsale appeared in his first of his school plays, playing Dopey in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. [4]: 17. When he was a teenager Beckinsale was in the role in Tobias, the Angel as well as Hsieh-Ping-Kuei, Lady Precious Stream's main character. This led to him receiving a positive review from the Nottingham Evening Post. Beckinsale at the age of 15 years old, aspired to be an actor in the professional world. He then spent the following two years at the college, until he was old enough to apply to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Beckinsale, who had failed his initial audition to RADA and was accepted on his second attempt. He was one of the only 31 applicants to be successful from a total more than 12,500 applicants. [438] While at RADA, Beckinsale won a award for his comedy
