Jeremy Shu-How Lin (born August 23, 1988) is a Taiwanese-American[1][2] professional basketball player who last played for the Guangzhou Loong Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Unexpectedly, he led an impressive turnaround for the New York Knicks (NBA) during the 2011-12 season. This created a cultural phenomenon that is known as "Linsanity". Lin was the first American of Chinese or Taiwanese descendance to play in the NBA, and is among the very few Asian Americans to have played in the league. Lin is the only Asian American to win an NBA championship, and did so in the Toronto Raptors in 2019.Lin grew in the San Francisco Bay Area and was awarded Northern California Basketball Player of the Year awards as a senior in high school. After not receiving any athletic scholarship offers He enrolled in Harvard University, where he was a three-time All-Conference player in the Ivy League. Undrafted out of college, Lin signed with his hometown Golden State Warriors in 2010. He seldom played during his first season, and received assignments to the NBA Development League (D-League). In 2011, Lin was waived by both the Warriors as well as the Houston Rockets before joining the New York Knicks early in 2011-12.At first, Lin played sparingly for the Knicks and then was a part of the D-League. Lin was elevated to the starting lineup in February 2012 and was the leader of the team's winning streak of seven games. Lin's impressive play throughout the season was instrumental in helping the Knicks make the 2012 playoffs as well as propelling him to international fame. Lin was mentioned on the covers of Sports Illustrated, Time and was also named to the Time 100 list of the top 100 influential individuals worldwide. In July 2012, Lin won the ESPY Award for Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.
