Wolfhard and Josh Ovalle co-directed their first music video in July 2017 for Spendtime Palace's song, "Sonora". Wolfhard was the main character in the role of Richie Tozier, in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s It. It and Stranger Things were both set in the 1980s. Wolfhard's role in them was a coincident. Wolfhard claims that the role was initially conceived for Richie by Cary Fukunaga, who was also attached as co-director as well as the writer. However, Fukunaga left the project because of differences in her creative vision. This led to Wolfhard to pursue Stranger Things. When Andy Muschietti became attached to It, Wolfhard had to audition again for the role of Richie. Wolfhard quit APA in October of 2017 and was fired Tyler Grasham, his former agent. This was after Grasham was accused of assaulting young actors. Wolfhard has never been the victim of sexual assault. In January of this year, Wolfhard signed with talent agency, CAA.He played Tyler, an altruistic and thoughtful pizza delivery man in the 2018 Ken Marino-directed ensemble comedy film Dog Days
