Wayans' film debut was when he starred as Young Kevin in Blankman (1994), his father’s feature film. Later, he was a guest star on the sitcom My Wife and Kids with his father in the role of John who was one of Junior's most cherished friends. In the following years, he worked as a writer on staff for the show. Junior's character was somewhat inspired by Wayans Jr. himself. He appeared on and was an author for The Underground. Wayans Jr. was also a shock to the audience when he was given applause during his first appearance on Def Comedy Jam. He appeared in the Wayans family comedy Dance Flick as the film's main protagonist, Thomas. From April 2011 to May 2013, Wayans starred as Brad Williams who was one of the lead characters on the ABC comedy series Happy Endings, alongside Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Zachary Knighton, Adam Pally, and Casey Wilson. The show was canceled by ABC despite critical acclaim. The show also earned an audience of cult. Happy Endings was already renewed by ABC but was cancelled by ABC. The producers of New Girl initially planned to remake Wayans his role, but later decided not to recast nor reshoot the pilot episode in which he appeared. Instead, starting in the second episode Wayans his character was replaced with Lamorne Morne, who played the role of Winston, a former roommate playing professional basketball in Latvia.
