 She appeared on a variety of TV shows during the mid-1980s, including Growing Pains, Fast Times and Infidelity. She also appeared in made-for-television movies like The Thanksgiving Promise, Infidelity as well as Day by Day, which she starred alongside Linda Kelsey, Douglas Sheehan and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. From 1992 until 1997 her first television role in a starring role was that of Alison Parker in Melrose Place. In 1995, she was the main character in Beauty's Revenge, a movie produced for TV. It was also released on CD and DVD in the form of "Midwest Obsession". From 1997 until 2000, she portrayed Georgia Thomas on Ally McBeal. Thorne Smith was initially auditioning for the role that played the title on the show. It was then given to Calista Lockhart. Her role was written by Ally McBeal at the beginning of season four in the year 2000, though she returned for brief guest appearances later on. Later, she stated that she had resigned from the show due to the pressure to lose weight. "I began under-eating, overtraining in a way, pushing myself to the limit and brutalizing my immune system," she told US Weekly. "The amount of time spent thinking about food and feeling upset about my body was insane. "From 2001 to 2009 she played Cheryl on the show According to Jim. Her real-life pregnancy in 2007 was initially a secret and then included in the show's plot. On February 18 the 18th of February, 2010, she signed on to play Alan Harper (Jon Cryer)'s girlfriend, Lyndsey McElroy, in season seven of Two and A Half Men.She played in 52 episodes of season seven to twelve.
