Bettany Hughes

 She is a visiting researcher at King's College London, formerly the head of Cambridge University's Institute of Continuing Education, and an honorary fellow at Cardiff University.Hughes has produced and written numerous documentary films and shows that cover both modern and ancient topics. In 2009, she won the Naomi Sargant Special Prize for excellence in broadcasting for educational purposes. In 2012 she was honored with the Norton Medlicott Award for services to history by the Historical Association, of which she is an honorary fellow. In 2010 she gave the Hellenic Institute's Tenth Annual Lecture "Ta Erotika: The Things of Love", and in 2011 she gave the Royal Television Society's Huw Wheldon Memorial Lecture. In the lecture, she claimed that the history of television is thriving and experiencing a new golden age. She chaired in 2011 the Orange Prize for Fiction. It is the UK's only annual award for fiction written exclusively by women. The Hughes Foundation is the patron for The Iris Project, a charity that promotes the teaching of Latin and Greek in UK public schools. she is an honorary patron for Classics For All, a national initiative to bring classical languages and the study of ancient civilisations back into public schools. She is an advisor to the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation which aims to foster large-scale collaborative projects that bridge East and West.In 2014 she was appointed a Distinguished Friend to the University of Oxford.She was made an Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA) on March 3, 2017.
