Morgan Freeman[2] was born July 1, 1937. He is an American actor and director. His unique voice and numerous roles across different genres of film are what make him well-known. Through his long career that spans over five decades, Freeman has been honored with numerous awards, including the Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Golden Globe Award.Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Freeman was born in Mississippi where he began acting in school plays. In his early years as an actor on stage and was studying theater arts in Los Angeles. He rose to fame in the 1970s for his part in the children's television series The Electric Company. Freeman was also a part of the Shakespearean productions of Coriolanus that earned him an Obie Award. His most memorable role came in Street Smart (1987), as a hustler. The role earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He further gained acclaim in Glory (1989), the biographical drama Lean on Me (1989) as well as the comedy-drama Driving Miss Daisy (1989) and the latter brought him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.In 1992, Freeman starred alongside Clint Eastwood in the western-themed revenge film Unforgiven and this was the first of many collaborations with Eastwood. He was also nominated to win an Academy Award in 1994 for his performance in The Shawshank Redemption, a prison drama. Freeman was also featured in David Fincher's crime thriller Se7en (1995) and Steven Spielberg’s historical drama Amistad (1997). Freeman was nominated to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Clint Eastwood's 2004 drama about sports Million Dollar Baby. In 2009, he was awarded his fifth Oscar nomination for playing the former South African President Nelson Mandela in Eastwood's Invictus. Freeman is also known for his role as Lucius Fox, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy (2005 from 2005 to 2012). Freeman has also directed the drama Bopha! (1993). With business co-founder Lori McCreary, he also co-founded the film production firm Revelations Entertainment. He has been awarded the Kennedy Center Honor, the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award as well as the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. He has received three Obie Awards for his performance in theater productions. It is among the most prestigious honors to acknowledge excellence in theatre.
