Scodelario, who was then 14 years old old and without any prior acting experience, was chosen in the role of Effy Stonem in the very first Skins series. Scodelario was discouraged at auditions because she believed she was not old enough. However an agent advised her to remain and asked her to read for the role. Scodelario received only a few speaking lines in the first season, but her character developed significantly over 2008. When the cast was replaced with a new group of characters, she became the main character in the series from 2009 to 2010. This led to Effy one of the only characters to be seen from series 1 all the way through to series 4. Effy was the sole character to be featured from series 1 to 4. The filming started in July. Scodelario announced that the end of filming was on November 18, 2009. She also stated that she would not be filming for the last day in the series. Her performance was praised by critics and she was twice nominated for Best Actress at the TV Quick Awards in 2009 and 2010. [14] In the episode "Fire" in the first of three parts of the seventh (and final) season of Skins, Scodelario reprised the role of Effy. It is a two-part depiction of her life as an adult, lasting two hours. She says "Fire" is "more like a movie" and that she can relate to Effy's struggle to transform from a teenage to an adult.Scodelario made her debut film in the science fiction-thriller film Moon which debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, receiving favorable reviews. She played the role of Tasha, a teenager, in Shank her second film. Shank was released on 26 March, 2010. She also was in the role of Peshet in the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans. In April of 2010 Scodelario announced that she had been chosen to play Cathy in the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights produced by Andrea Arnold. The film was premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2011, to generally favorable reviews. Scodelario was hailed as an "heart-wrenching surprise". (19) Wuthering Heights also played at numerous other international film festivals which included the Toronto International Film Festival,[20] London Film Festival,[21] as well as the 2012 Sundance Film Festiva
