Farrah Leni Fawcett (born Ferrah Leni Fawcett;[1] February 2 1947 - June 25 (June 25, 2009)) was an American actress. Fawcett was an eight-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee as in addition to a six-time Golden Globe Award nomination. Her international fame came due to her starring role in the first season's Charlie's Angels. She was a regular on numerous TV series during the 1970s alongside Lee Majors, her husband, who was a film and television actor. Six million copies of her iconic red swimsuit poster[2] were sold in the very first year of printing. Her most famous role was Jill Munroe, a private investigator in Charlie's Angels. Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson also starred in the film. The three actresses all rose to fame in the show. Fawcett was the only one to leave Charlie's Angels after appearing in the very first season of the show in the year 1976. In six episodes of the show's third and fourth seasons (1978-1980) she appeared as the guest star. As a result of her performance in Charlie's Angels, Fawcett received her first Golden Globe nomination.In 1983, Fawcett received praise for her performance in the Off-Broadway play Extremities. The play was later adapted into the film version in 1986 and received an Golden Globe nomination. As the character Diane Downs, a real-life serial murderer in The Burning Bed (1984) and Small Sacrifices (1989), she received Emmy Award nominations. Her 1980s work in TV films garnered her four additional Golden Globe nominations. Fawcett was criticized in 1997 due to her lengthy appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman. However she was also praised for her role as The Apostle with Robert Duvall that year. She continued her acting career on television in the 20th century. She was an anchor on The Guardian (2002-2003) and Spin City (2001). For this show she was awarded her third Emmy nomination. The credits on her film resume include Love Is a Funny Thing (1969) Myra Breckinridge (1970), Logan's Run (1976), Sunburn (1979), Saturn 3 (1980), The Cannonball Run (1981), Extremities (1986), The Apostle (1997) as well as Dr. T & the Women (2000).
