William Ray Norwood Jr. was the son of Willie Norwood Jr. and Sonja Bates Norwood. His elder sister Brandy is an artist with multi-platinum records. He relocated from McComb, Mississippi, to Los Angeles, California with his family in the early years of his life. In 1989, he started appearing in commercials on television for various companies. When he was just eight, Norwood started auditioning for television commercials. He played the role of a foster child in The Sinbad Show from 1993 until 1994. This time in his life would shape his career as an actor. Bradley Torreano, AllMusic says that Norwood's affable style and attractive appearance attracted Brandy's producers to Brandy’s television show, Moesha. He was given the role of Dorian "D" Money on UPN from 1999 to 2001.
