Patti LaBelle

 Patricia Louise Holte (born May 24, 1944)[1] best known as Patti LaBelle, is an American R&B actor, singer and businesswoman. LaBelle is referred to as the "Godmother of Soul".She started her career in the mid 1960s as the lead singer and frontwoman of the vocal group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. Following the group's name change to Labelle in the early 1970s and the release of their number-one hit "Lady Marmalade". Following the dissolution of the group in the year 1976, LaBelle started a successful solo career. The critically-acclaimed debut album featured the song that made her famous, "You Are My Friend". LaBelle became a mainstream solo star in 1984 following the success of singles "If You Only You Knew", "Love, Need and Want You" (later used as a sample for 2002's "Dilemma"), "New Attitude" and "Stir It Up". Just two years later, in the year 1986, LaBelle scored a number-one album, Winner in You[3] and the album's number one duet single "On My Own" and Michael McDonald.In 1989, the album Be Yourself resulted in the classic "If You Asked Me To" (later performed by Celine Dion). LaBelle was awarded a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her 1991 album , Burnin'. The album featured "Somebody Loves You Baby (You know who it is)", "Feels Like Another One" and "When You've Been Blessed (Feels Like Heaven)". Live! earned LaBelle a second Grammy award. One Night Only. The albums of her 1990s Burnin', Gems (1994) and Flame (1997) kept her popularity with young R&B audiences throughout the decade. She reunited with her Labelle bandmates to record Back to Now, followed by a successful tour to promote the album.
