Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonorFREng, a British racing driver, is currently racing in Formula One for Mercedes. Hamilton was born in Stevenage in Hertfordshire and is currently a Formula One driver for Mercedes and has been awarded seven World Drivers Championship championships. Hamilton also holds record for most wins (103), pole places (103) and podium finish (191). Hamilton was the first and only black driver to compete in Formula One from 2007 to the year 2012. In his inaugural season, Hamilton set numerous records when he was runner-up to Kimi Raikkonen by one point. Hamilton won his first title the following season in a dramatic manner. He did a decisive overtake during the final race of the season and became the youngest Formula One World Champion. Hamilton quit McLaren after six years, and joined Mercedes in 2013. He was mandated to adopt a turbo-hybrid motor for the 2014 regulations. It was the beginning of a period of success for Hamilton. Hamilton has since been awarded six more drivers' titles. In 2014 and in 2015, Hamilton took home consecutive titles, in an intense rivalry with Nico Rosberg. After Rosberg's retirement, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel became Hamilton's closest competitor in two championship fights during which Hamilton twice overturned mid-season point deficits to take consecutive titles again in 2017 and 2018. In order to match Schumacher's record of seven drivers Hamilton's third and fourth consecutive titles were won in 2019 and 2020.
