Kristy Swanson

Swanson began her acting career with R. J. Adams at The Actors Workshop. She quickly moved into TV advertising roles and a few one-off TV shows such as Cagney and Lacey and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. In 1986, she made her screen debut in Pretty In Pink (a role that did not speak) and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (a character that announces a convoluted excuse to Ferris for not attending class). In 1986, she was cast in Wes Craven's Deadly Friend as Samantha, "the girl closest to". In the following year, she played Cathy in the adaptation of V. C. Andrews popular book"Florals in the Attic.Swanson described how she was cast for the role in Pretty in Pink: "[WriterJohn Hughes] John Hughes said, 'We're filming a reshoot of the ending of Pretty in Pink. I wanted to know if it would be possible for you to come be in this scene with our main character Ducky since the way we tried it in the movie theater did not work. We need him to be with someone else in the final movie. Would you be able to play the role? ""By 1990 Swanson had been in a number of television shows, including a number of appearances on Knots making their debut (1987-1988), Nightingales (89), and her debut starring role in TV series. However, it lasted just one season. The series was replaced by a Burt Reynolds TV series called B.L. Stryker (1989). She starred mainly in films through the 1990s. She played the title role in the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was a commercial success despite not being an instant hit at the box-office. She was in both the starring and supporting parts in films like Hot Shots!, The Program, The Chase, or in her most critically-acclaimed character, Kristen Connor, a student finding out about her sexuality, in John Singleton's Higher Learning. She was also in the adaptation film of the comic book The Phantom and the dark comedy 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag together with Joe Pesci. She returned to television in the late 1990s after most of her movies failed in the box-office.
