Derek Sanderson Jeter (/'dZi:t@r/ JEE-t@r; born June 26, 1974) is an American former professional baseball shortstop, businessman, and baseball executive. As a player, Jeter was a part of the entirety of his 20-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the New York Yankees. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his very first year of eligibility in 2020. He got 396 of 397 possible votes (99.75%) which is the second highest percentage in MLB history (behind only teammate Mariano Rivera) and the most by a position player. From September 2017 to February 20,22, he was the chief executive officer (CEO) and a part-owner of the league's Miami Marlins. He is well-known for his leadership skills in hitting, baserunning, fielding and other aspects of the Yankees"dynasty. He is the Yankees' all-time career leader in hits (3,465) and doubles (544) games played (2,747) as well as stolen bases (358) as well as the number of times he has been on bases (4,716), plate appearances (12,602) and at bats (11,195). 1 He was given 14 All-Star selections as well as five Gold Glove Awards. Jeter was the 28th player with over 3,000 hits. He ended his career as the 6th-ranked shortstop in MLB history and the sixth-highest in career hits. In his time, Jeter contributed reliably to the Yankees' franchise successes. Jeter holds numerous postseason records and has a.321 World Series batting average. Jeter has earned the nicknames "Captain Clutch" and "Mr. November" due to his outstanding performance during the postseason.Jeter was among the most heavily marketed players of his time and has participated in numerous product endorsements.
