 Cristiano Ronaldo da Santos Aveiro ComM (Portuguese pronunciation, [kriS'tjanu R'naldu][kriS'tjanu Ro'naldu]) is a Portuguese professional footballer. He plays as a forward and also captains the Portugal national soccer team. He is currently an unrestricted free agent. Widely regarded as one of the best players ever, Ronaldo has won five Ballon d'Or awards[note 3] and four European Golden Shoes, the highest number of awards for a European player. He has also won 32 awards during his career, which includes seven league titles and five UEFA Champions Leagues, and the UEFA European Championship. Ronaldo holds the record for most appearances (183), goals (140) and assists (42) in the Champions League, goals in the European Championship (14), international goals (118), and international appearances for the European (192). Ronaldo is the sole player to have over 1,100 professional career appearances. He also has recorded more than 800 career goals either for the club or for his country. He is the only male footballer who has scored goals in five World Cup tournaments. His professional career in the senior ranks began at Sporting CP at the age of 18 and he signed with Manchester United in 2003. In his first season, he won the FA Cup. He also went to achieve three consecutive Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup and at age 23, he won his first Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo was the subject of the most expensive transfer to association football when he signed for Real Madrid in 2009 in the amount of EUR94 million (PS80 million) and he was awarded 15 trophies which included two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, and four Champions Leagues, and became the club's most prolific goal scorer. In 2013, 2014, and 2017, he won back-to-back Ballons d'Or. He was also runner-up in 2016, 2017 and 2017. He joined Juventus in the year 2018 at EUR100 million (PS88million) that was the highest price for a transfer for an Italian club and a player aged over 30. He was awarded two Serie A titles, two Supercoppa Italiana trophies and a Coppa Italia before going back to Manchester United in 2021. He left in 2022.
