Claudia Cardinale

 Claude Josephine Rose "Claudia" is also known as Rose Cardinale, is an Italian actress. She was a part of European films in the 1960s and 1970s. She acted in Italian, French, and English.Born and raised in La Goulette, a neighbourhood of Tunis, Cardinale won the "Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia" competition in the year 1957, the prize being an excursion to Italy that was followed by film contracts and, most importantly, the involvement of Franco Cristaldi, who acted as her teacher for a few years before marrying her. After her first appearance in a minor role along with Egyptian star Omar Sharif in Goha (1958), Cardinale became one of the most famous actresses in Italy with performances in films like Rocco and His Brothers (1960), Girl with a Suitcase (1961), Cartouche (1962), The Leopard (1963) and Fellini's 8 1/2 (1963).From 1963, Cardinale appeared in The Pink Panther alongside David Niven. After her appearance in the film The Pink Panther (1958), Blindfold (1965), Lost Command (1996), The Professionals (1966), Don't Make Waves( 1967) with Tony Curtis, The Hell with Heroes( 1968), and Sergio Leone Western Once Upon a Time in the West (68) A joint production between Italy and the United States where she was praised as a former prostitute along with Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda. Cardinale was fed up with Hollywood's film industry and did not want to become a cliche. She returned to French and Italian film and won the David di Donatello award for Best Actress for her roles in Il giorno the dilla civetta (1968), and as a prostitute in the film A Girl in Australia (1971). In 1974, Cardinale met director Pasquale Squitieri who would later become her co-director, and she frequently featured in his films such as I guappi (1974), Corleone (1978) and Claretta (1984) The final one of which earned her the Nastro d'Argento Award for the Best Actress. She was the love interest of Klaus Kinski's in Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo in 1982. Cardinale was awarded the Antalya "Golden Orange", International Film Festival's Best Actress Award for her portrayal of an elderly Italian woman who adopts the young Turkish student in Signora Enrica.
