Angela Bassett

 Angela Evelyn Bassett (born August 16th, 1958) is an American actress. She has been awarded many awards which include three Black Reel Awards, a Golden Globe Award, seven NAACP Image Awards, and an Screen Actors Guild Award, along with nominations for one Academy Award and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett started her acting career at Yale University in 1980. Following a few minor roles, including acting as Reva Styles in Boyz n the Hood (1991), Bassett had her breakthrough with her portrayal of the singer Tina Turner in the biopic What's Love Has to Do with It (1993), which garnered her an nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She then starred in a number of critically acclaimed and acclaimed films, such as Betty Shabazz in both Malcolm X (1992) and Panther (1995), as Katherine Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream (1992) and as Voletta Wallace in Notorious (2009) as Amanda Waller in Green Lantern (2011) as well as for the role of Coretta Scott King in Betty & Coretta (2013). Her other film roles include Bernandine Harris in Waiting to Exhale (1995), Rachel Constantine in Contact (1997), Stella Payne in How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998), Janet Williams in Music of the Heart (1999), Lynne Jacobs in Olympus has Fallen (2013) and London Has Fallen (2016), and Queen Ramonda in Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).On television the role of Bassett as Rosa Parks in the television film The Rosa Parks Story (2002), garnered her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Series or Film. Bassett received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries , Movie or Film in 2013. In the fourth season of Freak Show she was a regular show star in the role of Desiree Dupree. She received another Primetime Emmy Award nomination. In the fifth season of the show, Hotel, she portrayed Ramona Royale, a renowned movie actor. Bassett returned to her character as Marie Laveau in the episode Apocalypse's season eight. In the year 2018, Bassett began producing and playing in the Fox first responder drama 9-1-1 playing LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant.
