Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin [c] was born on the 7th of October 1952 in Russia. He is a former intelligence officer and politician, currently in the post of the president of Russia. Since 1999, Putin has been president or prime minister for a continuous period. Putin was prime minister between 1999 and 2000, from 2008 to 2012 and president between 2008 and 2012. Putin worked 16 years as a KGB Foreign Intelligence officer prior to when he resigned in 1991 to begin a career in politics. In 1996, he retreated to Moscow to become a part of the Boris Yeltsin administration. After serving as secretary of t
he Security Council of Russia and director of the Federal Security Service, he was appointed the prime minister in August 1999. Putin was elected for his first term of office in 1999 after Yeltsin had resigned. He was reelected in 2004. Putin was limited by constitutional law to serve only two terms as president. He served again as the prime Minister under Dmitry Medvedev from 2008 to 2012. He returned to the presidency in 2012 in an election marred by accusations of fraud as well as protests. He was reelected in the year 2018. Following a referendum in April 2021, he ratified constitutional amendments to the law, including one that would allow his reelection bid to be renewed two times, potentially extending the presidency to 2036.
