Vasyl Virastyuk was a participant in the finals of the World's Strongest Man contest in 2003 and 2004. In 2003, he came in third, behind Mariusz Pudzianowski (the reigning champion) and Zydrunas Svickas (runner-up). He was third in 2003 after the champion Mariusz Pudzianowski and Zydrunas Savickas. Virastyuk and Zydrunas Savickas were among the very first competitors to contest for the IFSA Strongman title. Savickas won the title in 2005 and the title in 2006. But others, like Pudzianowski were able to continue to fight to win the Met-Rx World's Strongest Man title. Pudzianowski won the title in 2007, 2007, and in 2008. Virastyuk defeated Savickas, who was twice IFSA World Champion. He became the first person in history to win both the World's Strongest man title in addition to an IFSA World title. Savickas was the second to accomplish this feat after winning the 2009 World's Strongest Man title in Malta.Virastyuk also has the podium at three occasions in three consecutive years (2005, 2006 and 2007) in the Arnold Strongman Classic coming second on each occasion in the race to Zydrunas Savickas. In 2008, at the Arnold Strongman Classic, Virastyuk had to pull out because of injuries. He placed in 10th place, with just 8.5 points.
