The Witcher is a fantasy-based television show created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. The show is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher is set on an imaginary landmass known as the Continent and explores the legends of Geralt of Rivia (Yennefer of Vengerberg) and Princess Ciri. The show stars Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan.The first season, which consists of eight episodes was released on Netflix on the 20th of December 2019. The show was based on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny These are collections of short stories which preceded the major The Witcher saga. The second season was 8 episodes long, and was based on Blood of Elves. It was released on the 17th of December, 2021. Netflix renewed the series in September 2021 for a third season. It will be released in the middle of 2023. The third season will follow and will feature Liam Hemsworth playing the role Geralt from Rivia. A animated film based on the origin story called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was released on August 23rd 2021. The Witcher: Blood Origin was released as a prequel miniseries on December 25, 2022.
