Suicide of Ronnie McNutt

On August 31, 2020 McNutt started a livestream via the social media site Facebook. His closest friend, Joshua Steen, encountered the stream. While he initially thought it was to be normal because McNutt had done livestreams before however, he was surprised to learn that McNutt was drunk and was holding a single-shot gun. 2 Steen was alleged to have tried intervening repeatedly, most notably when McNutt misfired the shotgun, hoping that Facebook would cut off the stream and shut down the live stream, thus preventing viewers from entering McNutt's house while Steen sought police intervention. Facebook was unable to stop the stream, saying that the stream did not violate any of its guidelines. According to Heavy, Facebook also initially was unable to stop the dissemination of recorded video of McNutt's misfire and suicide but later decided to take the videos off from its site. The stream continued to stream McNutt's cell phone kept ringing. McNutt was contacted by his ex-girlfriend. He was able to answer. This caused a brief conflict between the two. After his girlfriend had hung up at McNutt's cell then he called back, "Hey guys! That's it!" Then he shot himself on the chin which caused his dog to wander into the room. The shot was able to blow his face off, splitting it in half. Multiple parties were able to take pictures of the livestream. 8. New Albany Police Department was summoned to the scene, however they didn't access McNutt's residence until after his death. Police Chief Chris Robertson had secured the perimeter, evacuating nearby residents, and trying to connect with McNutt through a speakerphone, but to nothing to no success.
