Suicide of Ronnie McNutt

On August 31, 2020 McNutt began a livestream on the social media site Facebook. His best friend, Joshua Steen, encountered the stream. Although he didn't initially think the stream was unusual, as McNutt had done livestreams before, Steen became alarmed and tried to intervene. Steen also attempted to intervene after McNutt failed to fire his shotgun. Steen then hoped that Facebook would stop the stream and shut down the feed of video. The stream was blocked from entering McNutt’s home, while Steen demanded help from the police. Facebook did not stop the stream, insisting that it was not in violation of their guidelines. Heavy reports that Facebook initially did not want to stop McNutt recording misfires and suicides however, they eventually was able to agree to remove them from their platform. McNutt got a call from his ex-girlfriend who was answered by him. This led to an argument between the two. McNutt did not answer the phone until having hung up with her. He then yelled "Hey guys! Before shooting himself on the chin which caused his dog to enter the room. According to reports the shot was able to blow half his face off and left only his tongue visible. The livestream was recorded by a variety of parties. The New Albany Police Department was called to the incident during the livestream but they were not allowed into McNutt's apartment until after he died. Police Chief Chris Robertson, the chief of police, had secured the area and evacuated residents nearby. He tried to reach McNutt through a the speakerphone.
