Richard Benjamin Harrison

When he was 17 years old, Harrison attended a barn dance, where he met his wife of the future, Joanne Rhue, the daughter of Joseph Rhue, a county judge, who later became one of the lead lawyers for Philip Morris in North Carolina. They got married in 1960.Before they were married, Harrison stole a car and was taken into custody, was given a option by the judge to be sent to prison or the military. Harrison chose the latter, entering the United States Navy in October 1958. Joanne was pregnant with their first baby immediately after their wedding, and Sherry was their first child. Sherry, was born with Down syndrome. Their three other sons were Rick, Chris, and Joseph. Harrison was discharged from the Navy in February 1962, however, she re-enlisted 14 months later to receive the health benefits needed to pay Sherry's medical costs. She was only six years old when she died.
