Olivia Wilde

Wilde was born Olivia Jane Cockburn in New York City on March 10, 1984. She grew up in the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington, D.C. while enjoying summers at Ardmore in Ireland. In 2002 she graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts as well as Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C. The surname Wilde is a tribute to Oscar Wilde, an Irish writer from Ireland. She began using the name at the age of 14 to honor family members who had pen names. Then she attended the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. The Wilde family owned a Guilford house for a brief period. Andrew Cockburn (citation needed) is Wilde's father. He was born in London and raised in Ireland. Her mother, Leslie Cockburn (nee Redlich), is an American producer on 60 Minutes and journalist. She has a younger sibling and a brother who is nine years older. Her father, Claud Cockburn (a British novelist) and his sons Alexander, Patrick, Cockburn were journalist. Sarah Caudwell was also an author. Writer Christopher Hitchens was the Cockburn family's tenant in Washington, D.C. and served as Wilde's babysitter.
