Muggsy Bogues

 Bogues was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was raised in the Lafayette Court housing projects. His mother was taller than 4 feet 11 inches (1.50 m) and his father was 5 ft 5 in (1.65 m). He was the third of three siblings.Bogues's childhood was troublesome. He was just five years old when he was hit by a few buckshots and ended up in hospital. As a youngster Bogues was a witness to an individual being beaten to death with the bat of a baseball and a scene that haunted him into adulthood.When Bogues was 12 years old and his father was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the armed burglary. His brother Chuckie was also a drug user at the same time. Bogues was an outstanding wrestler and baseball player when he was an infant. He was a young child who played basketball on the playgrounds. His nickname was "Muggsy" named after a diminutive character from The Bowery Boys. Bogues attended Southern High School in Baltimore and started playing basketball there. Bogues wanted to become a dentist, which is why he enrolled at Dunbar High School in Baltimore. He was later coach by Bob Wade who is now the head coach of the University of Maryland. coach. Bogues was teammates of future NBA players David Wingate, Reggie Williams and Reggie Lewis (the latter two of whom were part of his class of graduates). The Dunbar Poets finished the 1981-82 season at 29-0 during Bogues's junior year . They went on to win 31-0 in his senior year in 1982-83, and were ranked the highest in the United States by USA Today.Bogues received offers of scholarships to play in the NCAA basketball tournament at several schools, such as Virginia, Penn State and Seton Hall
