 Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born May 14th, 1984) was an American business magnate and internet entrepreneur. He is known for co-founding the social media website Facebook and its parent company Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc.), of which he is the chairman, chief executive officer, and controlling shareholder.Zuckerberg attended Harvard University, where he launched Facebook in February 2004 with his roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The website was initially created by a select group of colleges. It grew quickly and eventually had one billion users by the year 2012. Zuckerberg took the company publicly available with the majority stakes in the month of May. He became the youngest self-made billionaire in the world, at just 23 years old. He has used his funds to organize multiple philanthropic endeavors such as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.Since 2008, Time magazine has named Zuckerberg among the 100 most influential people around the globe as part of its Person of the Year award, which he was recognized with in 2010. In December of 2016, Zuckerberg was ranked tenth on Forbes listing of The World's Most Powerful People. [6] He was 11th on the Forbes 400 list with wealth of $57.7billion in 2022. This was a decrease from his position as third richest American with a wealth of $134.5billion in 2021. As of late December 2022 the net worth of Zuckerberg was $42.4 billion according to the Forbes Real Time Billionaires making him the 26th richest person on the planet. The film that focuses on the career of Zuckerberg, The Social Network, was released in 2010.Zuckerberg's position in the tech industry has prompted the attention of both legal and political authorities. Zuckerberg was involved in a variety of lawsuits involving the creation and the ownership rights of Facebook. In 2013, he co-founded the pro-immigration lobbying organization FWD.us. On April 10 and 11, 2018, Zuckerberg testified before the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation concerning the use of personal information by Facebook in relation to the Cambridge Analytica-Facebook data breach.
