Meyer was born Pauline Joyce Hutchison, south St. Louis, in 1943. Shortly after her birth, her father was enlisted in the army to fight in World War II. In her interviews, she stated that her father started sexually abusing them after returning. She also discussed this during her meetings. She still speaks with the O'Fallon Technical High School's working-class St. Louis accent grad. She got married to a salesman for a car part-time soon after completing her final year of high school. The marriage lasted five years. The wife claims that her husband had cheated on her a lot and she persuaded her husband to take her employer's payroll checks. The funds were used to pay for a trip to California. She claims that she returned the money years after. Meyer was in bars following her divorce and also met Dave Meyer, an engineer draftsman. They were married on January 7, 1967.
