John Leonard Orr

John Leonard Orr, born April 26, 1949, is an American ex-firefighter, novelist criminally convicted arsonist, as well as mass murderer. Orr was a fire captain as well as an arson investigator for the Glendale Fire Department in Southern California. He was found guilty of serial arson as well as four counts of murder. Los Angeles was plagued with fires during the 1990s and 1980s. These fires caused millions of damage and killed a number of people. Orr was found to be the cause of most of the fires. The arson spree that he was on, Orr was known as "The Pillow Pyro" because of the place of the fires within shops., the "Frito Bandito", and the "coin-tosser. "His method of operation was to ignite fires using an incendiary timing device typically consisting of a lighted cigarette with three matches, which were wrapped in yellow writing paper and tied with a rubber band, in stores while they were open and populated. He also would set small fires, often in grassy hills in order to attract firefighters, leaving fires set in areas that were more crowded unattended.
