Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Shu-How Lin from Taiwan, a professional player in basketball, was born on August 23, 1988. He was last with the Guangzhou Loong Lions (CBA) in China. Unexpectedly, he led an improvement in the performance of the New York Knicks (NBA) in the 2011-12 season. This created a cultural phenomenon called "Linsanity". Lin was the first American of Chinese or Taiwanese descent to compete in the NBA and is among the very few Asian Americans to have played in the league. Lin is the first Asian American to win a NBA championship. He won it in the year 2019, playing for the Toronto Raptors. Lin was born in San Francisco Bay Area, and was named Northern California Basketball Player Of The Year in his high school senior. In the absence of any athletic scholarship offers and a lack of offers from colleges, he enrolled at Harvard University, where he was an all-conference selection three times within the Ivy League. After being undrafted from college, Lin signed with his hometown Golden State Warriors in 2010. He seldom played during his first season, and was given assignments to the NBA Development League (D-League). Lin was let go by the Warriors and Houston Rockets in 2011. He then joined the New York Knicks in 2011-12. Lin also spent some time in the D-League. In February 2012, however, he was promoted to the starting lineup and the team went on an eight-game winning streak. Lin's impressive play helped the Knicks reach the 2012 playoffs. He also earned him international recognition. Lin was included on the covers of Sports Illustrated, Time and was named to the Time 100 list of the top 100 influential individuals across the globe. In July 2012, Lin won the ESPY Award for Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.
