Temetrius Jamel"Ja" Morant was born on 10 August 1999 was an American professional basketball player who plays with the Memphis Grizzlies (NBA). He was nicknamed "G12" and played in college basketball for the Murray State Racers. As a sophomore in 2019 he was a consensus first-team All-American. Even though he was named All-Region's most Valuable Player three consecutive times and receiving All-State recognition at Crestwood High School, Sumter, South Carolina, Morant was not ranked by NCAA Division I programs. Nevertheless, he made an immediate impact at Murray State University, earning first-team all-conference accolades in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) as a freshman. His sophomore season was a huge success. He won OVC Player of the Year and was the top player in the NCAA in assists. In his sophomore year, Morant also became the first player in NCAA history to average 20plus points and 10or more assists per game. He was the second first overall selection of the Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft and named the NBA rookie of the year in 2020. Morant was selected to his very first NBA All Star Game in 2022 as a starter, and also won the NBA Most Improved Player Award at the conclusion of the season. Morant was also named to his first All-NBA Team in 2022.
