Imelda Romualdez Marcos(locally [I'melda'markos] born Imelda Remedios, Visitacion Trinidad Romualdez 2 July 1929) is a Filipino politician who served as the First Lady of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986, wielding significant political power under the regime of her husband,[5][6] 10th president Ferdinand Marcos. The mother of current president Bongbong Marcos.During the 21 years of her husband's rule, Imelda Marcos directed the building of numerous extravagant architecture projects using public money and "in the most ridiculously short order"[9-- a pro-government technique that later came to be known as her "edifice complex". Her husband and she snatched billions of dollars from the Filipino population. They built up a fortune of US$5 to US$10billion by 1986. This was later known as her "edifice complex". In the time she was in foreign countries, she attended extravagant parties and shopping sprees. Also, she spent lots of State money on her own jewelry, art and shoe collections, accumulating more than 3,000 pairs of shoes.
