Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born 15 April 1990) is an English actress and activist. Her fame is based on her roles in blockbuster movies and independent films, as in her advocacy to promote women's rights. Watson has received several awards which include the Young Artist Award and three MTV Movie Awards. Watson is ranked as one of the top actresses in the world by Forbes and Vanity Fair, and was listed as one of the top 100 influential people by Time magazine in 2015Watson attended the Dragon School and trained in acting at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. As a child, she rose to stardom when she landed her first professional acting role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, having previously acted only in school plays. Watson was also in the TV adaptation of the novel Ballet Shoes and lent her voice to The Tale of Despereaux (2008). After Harry Potter's final film, Watson played a supporting part in My Week with Marilyn (2011). She then starred in the role of Sam, a free-spirited girl in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). The film was a critical success. She was also acclaimed for her roles in the film as Alexis Neiers, the titular character in Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring (2013), and for her role as the adoptive daughter of Noah's Biblical epic Darren Aronofsky. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has awarded Watson the distinction of being the British Artist of the Year that same year. Watson also appeared as Belle in the live-action remake of the musical romance Beauty and the Beast (2017) that ranks among the top-grossing films ever, as well as Meg March in Greta Gerwig's coming-of-age drama Little Women (2019).
