Rhodes was born in Nashville, Tennessee. She started her career in showbiz in the prestigious Opryland USA in 1970 as an actress and singer while attending Glencliff High School [citation requiredThe school required citations. Rhodes also refused to participate in photo shoots for Playboy magazine and resisted scripts that required nakedness. Sylvester Stallone was the Staying Alive director. He stated that Rhodes preferred to quit the industry than embarrass her parents. "Rhodes played a small role in the fantasy musical Xanadu (1980). She was part of a 1982 video production called "The Tubes Video", produced by Russell Mulcahy, choreographed and choreographed in by Kenny Ortega. This long-form, 52-minute music video included Rhodes as one of three dancers who were backup for the San Francisco-based band The Tubes and includes hits like "Talk to You Later", "Sushi Girl", "Sports Fans" and "Mondo Bondage".Her next film role was Tina Tech in the musical film Flashdance. After Flashdance, Rhodes was cast as the opposite of John Travolta in Sylvester Stallone's 1983 film Staying Alive, a sequel to the film that made headlines in 1977, Saturday Night Fever. The character played by Rhodes, Jackie, was an ensemble dancer, bar band vocalist, and sometime romantically involved with Travolta's character. The film, despite being badly received, was a commercial success.
