Christopher Gilbert Perez, born on the 14th of August, 1969, is an American guitarist. He is well-known for his part as the guitarist who led the Tejano band Selena y Los Dinos. He got married to the frontwoman of the group, Selena, on April 2, 1992. Perez was one of the two children of Gilbert Perez, Carmen Medina and grew up in San Antonio. In 1986, he started his journey by joining Shelly Lares' band. In the latter half of the 1980s, Perez was respected by Tejano musicians for his guitar abilities. This attracted A.B. Quintanilla was attracted to Quintanilla's story. was looking for a new guitarist to join the band he produced, Selena y Los Dinos. Between one and two years after Perez joined the band, he and Selena began a personal relationship.Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla, forced them to end their relationship because he felt Perez's image might damage Selena's career. They continued to remain close friends despite his threats of disbanding the band. Abraham dismissed Perez and forbade Selena from going with Abraham. Perez wed Selena in 1992. Selena, her former friend and ex-manager of her bouti shot and killed her on March 31, 1995.
