Bill Cowher

William Laird Cowher, born May 8 1957, is an American sports analyst as well as a former player and coach, and also a former linebacker in the NFL. Following a six-year playing career as a linebacker with the National Football League (NFL) He was head coach of the NFL for 15 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His coaching career began by working as an assistant for Marty Schottenheimer, who was the Kansas City Chiefs' defensive coordinator between 1989 and 1991. Cowher was named the head coach of the Steelers in 1992. The team managed until his retirement following the 2006 season. Cowher quit and was hired by The NFL Today as a studio analyst. Under his direction, Pittsburgh won eight division championships and two AFC Championship Games. Cowher's Super Bowl win was the first championship the team won in more than two decades. It also marked the first Super Bowl championship not being won by Chuck Noll. The Steelers were in postseason play 10 times under Cowher and he had six consecutive appearances between his 1992 hiring to 1997, which made him the second NFL head coach to make the playoffs during his first six seasons after Paul Brown. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
