Raquel Welch

Jo Raquel Welch (nee Tejada, September 5, 1940) was an American actress. Her fame first came about for her role as Fantastic Voyage (1966), and later she was offered an audition with 20th Century Fox. They loaned her contract to British studio Hammer Film Productions, for who she created One Million Years B.C. (1966). She was able to use three lines of dialogue in the film. But, her pictures of her bikini and her doe-skin became the best-selling posters and made her an international icon of sex. Later, she appeared in Bedazzled (1967) and Bandolero! (1968) 100 Rifles (1969), Myra Breckinridge (1970) and Hannie Caulder (1971). She made several television variety shows, showcasing strong female characters, which helped in her breaking the mould of the conventional sex symbol, Welch developed a unique film persona which made her an iconic figure of the 1960s and 1970s. Her rise to fame in the mid-1960s was partly responsible for ending Hollywood's aggressive promotion of the blonde bombshell. She won an Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Actress in an Musical or Comedy in 1974 for her performance in The Three Musketeers. She was also nominated to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Television Film for her performance in the film Right to Die (1987). Empire magazine named Welch one of the 100 Sexiest Film Actresses in Film History in 1995. Playboy listed Welch as No. 3 on their "100 Sexiest Celebrities of the Twentieth Century" list.
